EDC Roundtable Symposiums

The EDC Roundtable is a symposium focused on providing EDC members, county and city officials, military delegates, and guests a unique networking opportunity with a keynote speaker. In previous years, high profiles speakers have included a representative from the Federal Reserve Bank, the Florida Department of Transportation Director to the Florida Secretary of Commerce. 

The EDC's morning roundtable event provides a buffet breakfast and approximately 200 community leaders attend these informative morning symposiums.

New Leadership for a New Age: Higher Education

Panelists included: Dr. Martha Saunders, President of the University of West Florida, and Dr. Devin Stephenson, President of Northwest Florida State College.

Sequins & Suits Auction and Wine Tasting Presented By Okaloosa Gas - Okaloosa Gas District presents the Niceville Valparaiso Chamber of Commerce annual Sequins & Suits Charity Auction & Wine Tasting event at the beautiful Emerald Grande.  Proceeds from the event will benefit the Niceville Valparaiso Chamber of Commerce and a featured charity. This year's featured charity is Children In Crisis, Inc. This year's event will also feature amazing silent and live auctions, a wine tasting, delectable small plates, a fun wine pull, cash bar and more in a spectacular ballroom overlooking the harbor! Festival of Trees - Don’t miss this Festival of Trees held annually in Grand Park at the Grand Boulevard at Sandestin. There will be a showcase of uniquely decorated Christmas trees from twelve local, non-profits. The trees debut the Tuesday before Thanksgiving and remain in the park through Christmas for the public to enjoy and learn more about the missions of these organizations.

A Downtown Holiday - The Downtown Fort Walton Beach Organization and the City of Fort Walton Beach are excited to present their 4th Annual “A Downtown Holiday!” Located at the beautiful Fort Walton Beach Landing Park, this event is fun for the whole family with a Tree Lighting Event at 5:30pm, Christmas shopping and treats, live entertainment and kids activities. The “A Downtown Holiday” Event is proud to serve as a drop-off location sponsor for the US Marine Corps’ “Toys for Tots” Program – please bring a new, unwrapped toy for this wonderful program to brighten the Holidays for children in need!

"Be the Inspiration" Niceville Christmas Parade - The Niceville-Valparaiso Rotary Club presents the Annual Niceville Christmas Parade featuring Santa, floats from various community clubs and organizations, performing units, candy and more!  The Christmas Parade begins on John Sims Parkway at intersection of Palm Blvd and to Partin Drive where the Parade turns and travels up Partin Drive to the Children's Park and Ruckel Middle School. The parade will start at 10 AM.

Starting a Business Workshop - Are you thinking about starting a business? Attend this workshop and learn about funding options for your business, basic marketing strategies, legal business structures, taxation and the nuts and bolts of actually launching your new business. After attending the workshop, the Florida Small Business Development Center will provide assistance as you create your business plan and move toward your goals. The workshop will be held from 1 to 4 PM at the Florida SBDC at UWF - Fort Walton Beach, Building 8 - Library 2nd Floor. Register here

Destin Christmas Parade - The City of Destin’s 34th Annual Christmas Parade will be held Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018, at 10 a.m. This year’s theme is “Christmas at the Beach." Floats will begin at Downtown Destin Shopping Center (Old Time Pottery) and travel west down Harbor Blvd. (Hwy 98) to Stahlman Avenue. Spectators should stand on the north side of Harbor Blvd. to watch the parade. For those who wish to enter a float in the parade, applications are available at the Destin Community Center and online here. In lieu of an entry fee, each float entry must make a donation of a new toy for a local charity and drop it off at the Destin Community Center along with a completed application. Applications must be turned in no later than Friday, Nov. 30, 2018. Please call the Community Center at 654-5184 for more information.

Niceville Senior Center Grand Opening - The City of Niceville is proud to announce the opening of the Niceville Senior Center.  A free, public Grand Opening Ceremony will be held at the Center at 201 Campbell Drive from 4:30 to 6:30 PM. This state-of-the-art center will provide programs and services for Niceville’s growing and active older-adult population. The 9,200-square-foot facility features large multipurpose rooms, social area, patio courtyard, fitness area, game room and free Wi-Fi.  The central location, just behind City Hall, is convenient to all adults in the area aged 55+.The Senior Center will offer a variety of programs and activities, including fitness classes such as Zumba and yoga; recreation programs such as bridge, pickleball, raised-bed gardening and chess; educational presentations; computer classes; and technology tutoring. The facility is also available for private reservations on evenings and weekends.

Sounds of the Season - Enjoy the Sounds of the Season featuring Buddy Mullins, Gospel Music Association’s Hall of Fame, and formerly with the Gaither Vocal Band and the Alleluia Orchestra.  Admission is a donation of a new, unwrapped child’s toy to be distributed through the participating church ministries.  A portion will also be donated to Hurricane Michael relief efforts. This event is sponsored by the Mattie Kelly Arts Foundation and will be held at the Destin United Methodist Church in the Destin Life Center from 4 PM to 6 PM.

Discover Science Saturday: Holiday Fun! - Bring the family to the Discover Science Saturday: Holiday Fun from 10 AM to 2 PM at the Emerald Coast Science Center.  You will have a blast with special holiday crafts like engineering crazy gingerbread structuresm felting your very own ornament, making candy sleighs, and joining in on SMALLLab winter games. The Power of Perseverance featuring Lonnie Johnson - Johnson served in the U.S. Air Force, where he was awarded multiple medals and helped develop components in the stealth bomber program. Later as a NASA Nuclear Engineer, he received multiple achievement awards for his work in spacecraft system design. Johnson is most well known as the inventor of the Super Soaker squirt gun, that received multiple industry awards, including Outdoor Toy of the Year. This is a free event and will take place at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center in Niceville from 7:30 to 9 PM.

Rosie Revere, Engineer - With a spotlight upon STEM curriculum, this fun new musical is based upon Andrea Beaty’s book series (Rosie Revere, Engineer; Iggy Peck, Architect; and Ada Twist, Scientist). There will be two showings of this event. The first performance will start at 9:45 a.m., followed by the second show time at 11:30 a.m. Shows are approximately one hour in length. Study guides are available upon request. Tickets for this show are $6 and can be purchase by contacting Suzanne Flood at (850) 729-6065, or flooda2@nwfsc.edu
